Don't Recognize Someone's Face
This week's Torah potion offers us powerful insight as to how we often see things in this world and how it is skewed from reality.
The Torah portion says" Judges and officers you shall appoint for yourselves in all your gates (cities) which Hashem your God gives you-for your tribes. and they shall judge the people with righteous judgement. You shall not pervert judgement, you shall not respect someone's presence (literally face) and you shall not accept a bribe, for the bribe will blind the eyes of the wise and make just words crooked"
This portion comes out in the month of "introspection and repentance (literally the word means return - return to one's true self) -therefore read it as you have to be your own judge for yourself (make sure you are proceeding in the way that you truly want) and creates ways (systems) to police yourself - in every area of life
Areas of life of your challenges) that God gives you. And once you are in touch and connected with God that he is the one who gives us all of our tests (and you have judged yourself) then (as we all do naturally) judge others.
How to judge another? Righteously! Just like you give yourself the benefit of the doubt so too others
At this point the Torah is worried that you will still pervert justice. So the Torah gives us great advice "Don't respect someone's presence (face) and don't take a bribe - because if you do you will remain perverted in your judgement -
Part 2 coming
